This is microscope and Entercom radio Portland public affairs program I'm during blocks and with two questions for you are you'll Bullard. And do you like to bowl in your pajamas probably listen to this show. This on the show we're going to be talking with Jerry pummeling community relations supervisor was sleep train Jarrett. How would go aren't doing good Perry you. Doing great today good so you know sleep train is always doing something new about Foster kids right. We have tried going on year round and really out of all the dreads we do this is one of our most exciting times because we really get past. All the community in one spot for a PGM mobile who is available to gamble at Sunday April 24. It will be a big help beaver and that you don't just right down the road hopefully from in net too afraid that China. Well available in big Els looks of those. Celek pretty awesome things big Els is a really fun place. Big Al they've actually held it for us differ quite a few years it's a very fun family environment. It's a really nice bowling Alley if you haven't been there I recommend you check it out. And if you have an hour come join us by signing up it's it's really great in we have more deep hills. About the gamble that they gambled our combo would look Terry more today. Now also loved the looks talk about it. What so can we expect when we walked through the front door big Els for Purdue mobile. The chemical is really an ongoing event is built up year after year so as you walk in. Number one people are to meet their began of their series and it's called the Biggio will also. There's no training for a marathon you literally can roll out of bed in your began as I walked through the doors and we'll have a bunch of different. Cable's ratings go bowling will be ready ready really to go from that point. Some we have a raffle going we have T shirts were given away which here which are reddish ration. We have all sorts of fun Fries is we have cookies handing out. And out most of all live with your reddish ration for lunch he would spend that daily time to get there to here co workers so. Really when you walked through the doors very to have some fun and make a big impact of Austria. What can pajamas to see a consumable. All you see everything from I think we've had a ninja turtle. Squad of foreign and internal and shredder last year. You'll see one V you'll see two accused. You know it's one of those things where you're not that Yemen he kinda feel like here's the odd one out because everything next themselves out and all sorts of the end of its it's really a lot of fun. That doesn't happen very often. Now known nodded not a male working spire meant this spot the bank companies so we encourage you you know but apple. One of these and that show up show up your DJ. Or be a great team to get together may be with your family members or maybe even some coerced. You know we see all types of both teams out there we see everything. From soccer teams you Catholics getting together in raising money for Foster kids leave he church groups. We keep tons of companies that come out year after year. Com they've grown from one teens having multiple teams because you can have up to five people. Guilty if you have an office it's safe fun and great way to team build as well. We've got just about suit probably about three weeks hope Jim mobile how what's the best way to sign upping get involved. The best way to I have been good to get these deadly divvied up a gentle old dot com. You can select which Alley you'd like cheaper to stay that in big out of the one in beaver and location. And we have an 11 AM and 2 PM wave so when he get registered or last place where we want to. What weight he'd like to register and really it should tell you Obama let's say you go there he is signed up its 250 dollars per team of five. So fifty dollars per person into that which would include two games bowling. A T shirt she rental. Then again at random president that would have. Throughout the days so did you able dot com it gives all the in formation we really recommend signing up earlier because lean do you feel. Okay and that's when you when you buy your registration in that monies used for very good things tells about how the money issues. All the money from a gamble is rate helped Foster youth participate in music lessons be involved in sports or even go to a summer camp where they can reunite with siblings. These are opportunity that most spots you don't really get to have that normal childhood experience last. Andy really you know Austrians do receive respect and we recognize that. But aspect that would need to be increased 86%. To meet the average cost raising a child. So oftentimes he'll build necessities are being met but little things like giving to go play soccer getting to take ballet lessons. Com learning musical instrument. Build build may get overlooked because the parents are working so hard to provide the necessities that we want to make sure these funds can give them that picture opportunity. Find their niche by their actions. And that's really what the gym although they give a border bowel all the fun that you raise they're gonna go help Foster he used participate in something that they love. How important are extracurricular activities to Foster kids and for kids in general. Coming into it you look back at your factory here really your own life well what we're passionate do you have what action protecting these were you involved with. You know we're able to have a tutor. And when you look at fox used as mentioned you know they may not have these type of opportunities. So when when they're given the funds given the resources to participate it helps build self confidence. Self esteem they could be part of the team with other kids. And really fired by their strength. Mom if he really these firms aren't limited to a specific summer camp a specific sport so it's it's a wide range where. If they're going to a Lago camp they can go to that it's one of those things where it's so important for these Osce to really. Find what they're passionate about find that is their successful at soccer and is a passion for and we hope that. We get tons of teams to sign up in and help peace posse without even more. It seems like being involved in some sort of club would there be a sports club broad chess club or math club or anything like that. Really helps. Give some self confidence. Absolutely you know aid this is part of. Really you know setting goals achieving those goals and many do see you look back at the sense of pride you feel they accomplishment. And you know Lee could be mastery and ensure that this or something a state child may receive the funds for you know ten years old. In carried on for a lifetime and so your donation will really make an impact. And it's it's one of those areas where. You know we really cut the funds he's worked with some great nonprofit charities in the major Portland area major national Portland area so. These are going back to local Fox News that will directly be participating in those leaks and innocent music lessons and summer camps in your area. Wesley current pardon me in my sleep train decided to help out Foster kids in such a great way. You know that children Foss security is one of those areas where you don't see many major companies that are devoting. Funds and resources to this it's. It's. Oftentimes overlooked Foster use the resources out there we wanna make sure that I it. We can provide these opportunities because. He is. There really is not that much out there and with this eight give them an opportunity to. You know use those funds to find what they're passionate about is he sleep train really it's near and dear to our hearts. We hear the stories you know we need the Foster parents we need to talk to children and we want to make sure that these that these children throughout their life Apple's basic essentials. That they have those same opportunities that other children and that's where. It comes and we just wanna be of the provide a level playing field for all children and with our case it's it's Foster children specifically. How many Foster kids are in the in our area. They're nearly 20000 fought street to the north less than corollary you were looking over 8000 Foster used. And you know we we really expand our efforts to make sure we are serving. The entire state of organ that obviously went without that Portland area. Some of our our biggest. Partners that we work with our out of the major Portland area right in Vancouver. And so when you look at it. Now over 8000 and organs. Your funds are really needed because we want to make sure that every youth how to an opportunity. To find their niche fine with their passionate about. What are some obstacles that a Foster kids run into in their in their life. We're one of the biggest thing is so fast you can have an average placement of two to three in any year any of those those. Being taken out of the home and moved to another break there for any child that was set them back in school. And you know needing friends say it was you look at just the placements and itself having multiple placements. It takes you out of. The environment that you're used to eat each carry duke. You don't make friends. That your grades though lead when you get sent back out to go to school district or within the family there's just adjustments that any person. Acted without the states and that's the challenge right there if let's say they are participating in the sport and they have to move. It's one of those things where they they're being pulled out of that so. That challenge of the plate movement is something that gave it definitely can take it hole on on children posture. It seems like some Foster kids have constant disruption in their lives. That is absolutely true in along with the placement these children you know to no fault of their own have been removed from their homes. Milk story is the same if Iranians each of her being removed from the families due to say. All sorts of situations. So the fact that you're. Here now removed from your family you are having multiple placements. It really is a challenge in we want to make sure that with these funds. Something wired they can find that passion they can find something that they tangled cords and look to succeed. Yeah that's for Purdue in the Balkans and rent. That's where Padilla mobile comes then they're really the community comes and a gamble has raised over one million dollars and it's ten years and really that's it to the success of our community getting involved those. Work groups signing up the team those church groups setting up seen many and then just Stanley predicted you'd see the cranes his big grandparents. The success of the gamble as huge a huge. Really shut out the comedian how they get back. This the eleventh year for sleep trains but Jim mobile right. Yes we are going on our eleventh year with that with the ten year rating over a million dollar dollar a huge milestone. And we're really looking on growing gamble even more. And you know we want to spread the word out our web site we have really it is very user friendly way you sign up. You can share your team donation page. Through social media so really it's it's. It's as simple as signing up you have your team page you can share with your friends. And every donation council which I think is easiest possible for you to fund raise and be one of the top placing teams in beside that sometimes bowling skills. They made up either but if your fundraising skills learned he can be one of the top five team. Now and ask how competitive the Jim Hubble gets I would imagine some teams get give pretty involved. You know bay they have some teams have been fundraising year round and that doesn't set any any team behind but. Another team out there that. He looked he chili cook off during the fundraising and so they're they're doing Chile can cost to raise money they're doing different types of events where they get their friends and family together. To help. Basically did get those funds raised for the Jim Ball. Ami had some amazing teens raised over 4000 dollars I think we've had three teams last year over 4000 dollars raised. So it gets pretty competitive. Sunni come down to the end of the event and the bowling. The bowling matters little born in the fundraising matters as well also Aiken get a little competitive. Taken measures to get competitive but really when you're in that bunny pajamas the ticket to competitive market the element of fun going on. Now it's it's it's a lot of fun eagle and on Philly DC the competitive side but he you know it made the top teams there is that the grand prize team wins any. Egress mattress set for each member of their team so that's pretty good prize for first place in second place you know. We have some really nice fellow the league about we have certificates too big owls. Also deprive yourself. Unity you're not the top team there's other ways that we try to make it just a fun environment and Iranians like to mention you're getting backed local area posse. You win this jam mobile and Sunday April 24 it will be at big out in beaver can be really fun events well it's. Actually we're really excited I think we're all about five we count down so where we're all prepped for it. Very nice. So I tell me about some of the teams that sign up we know we talked a little bit about some of the pajamas and I wanna hear Samir favorites. You know really a year after years we have sixteen they're they're a couple teams there's the number one these. Let's just about five guys that always say you know they're one of our top fundraising teams. But they always have a new different won the outfit that they shell out dated and let's just say you know scene. Late twenties to early thirties guys all dressed up there when needed it's a little goofy. As it. It's one of our favorite teams but we also have been striking divas which still be Lake Bell is Beasley has some pink boas and feathers on on. They. You know really there are all fun and it's really great seal work company groups because. Well they do have some fun but Yemen they get to show off sometimes there work shirts than you're really just see that that that team mark how they're all unified when it's. The scene seemed to jam us but think that was it two years ago we add. They marvel superheroes teams so you have the whole team Captain America. You really can have a much fun with the theme that you want to end we we just hope we continue to see more that because we do you have. A FaceBook photo contest. So there's there's more ways to win than just being good bowler you can have some crazy degenerate and win our FaceBook photo contest. I'd say don't understand how you could not help fund if your bowling and in your pajamas but to sounds like good arrest me for them. Excitement. And you don't like you know you don't have to train firm marathon an old running running is great but it's what those where. But like that even after the kids they controlled the bumpers. And have some fun as well it's it's really a a fun environment. We have sleep train employees helping L as far as far as for volunteers so it's really. A great opportunity for us to be involved in the community and see those people who have given back year round and I'd get back to our GM Opel. Jerry how long have you been involved with the and sleep train in and helping Foster kids. This does that go how much this year with sleep train and as mentioned before it's it's been an amazing read see this program. Grow especially through a GM Opel. Com from the days of I need registration to having it full let's send up a symbol Viacom where it really does the work for you. We've just been thrilled with the sport that was out from the community from our vendors from our media partners. Really everyone has made to joint effort to continue yeah yeah tired tired donations so. It we're are. I'm really thrilled to see how it how it's really launched. Terrible is happening April 24 but sleep train does suffer all throughout the year to help out Foster kids can you talk about some of the other ways you would help out. Absolutely our our program really looks at the needs that the basic essentials for fox is when they come into the home. These children are removed from their homes with. Possibly the only clothes on her back or media trash bag carried their personal belongings. And. Really lit with our drive that we hold up our store locations we aren't really looking for the basic essentials we're looking for clothing whether it's new genes. The new teacher you pretty new issues to go three sessions and really when it comes to school supplies having those schools but available to start off the year. And we also have with that our toy drive during the holidays when Italy is simply delicious yes stable at the holidays. There's such a need out there to have these toys for children so. When it comes you know they they know somebody's thinking about some. We we really. Take donations year round. Even if it's in a driver were out of the draft we accept donations that all of our store locations so on the other end of the. But Jim Hubble is our our marquee event that we highlight we do look to receive any news in kind donations. That you may have self. You'll you'll probably hear our ads on the radio throughout the year and just know that we are always accepting donations. Yeah and that your whole company gets involved with helping help Foster kids are. It's an amazing thing to believe from our store employees. There at the stores opened with a program we have our operations workers who were helping. Tell sort transport the Adams. And then even from our corporate. Whether it's from the back end of making sure everything's in line. Maybe it's something amazing to see that we have to support that we do. And along with our drives we also you know we give back to our communities through volunteer hours so. There's oftentimes you may see. Our employees volunteering in the community self. It's it's amazing to see that our employees have really taken this cost art and nature age it's really a part of our company. Ten dollar drive is going on right now is that right. We added we have dollar dress gone on to gamble is he's the primary focus with the with dollar guidance number other areas where they don't mean I have to give mobile. Some else for extra curricular activities silk. But the Portland area primarily focusing on that that bit that Jim wolf funds which will help. Lit the match curricula activities even in our other markets the dollar drive it's just the way to continue to response. Or. Four extra activities. And there's way to make donations online as Eric. Absolutely donations can be except that the gamble our com it's really easy you go to the main web site and then they'd donate now feature. So it's. Pretty easy you can you can donate all mine you can donate in store. It's just woo wee we wanna make it easy as possible for. Unique is that it's something that's near and dear to your heart we wanna make sure that. You know use you have a way to get it it's a monetary donation or citizen new clothing item that you have the ability that. If our listeners are unable to make it to the gym mobile are there other ways they can help out. There you know throughout the year there's many ways they can help Al but during our drive for the gym or an elk has mentioned they can go to our web site. They can create a personal campaign basically a personal fundraising page if they are they able to participate Campbell. They can go online create personal fundraising campaign and collect monetary donations but. Really throughout the year. We. We are looking for help through almost address just like teams could get in particular from Campbell. They can hold down dress so we get it through this but you ample time. You know we legal right in the clothing drive so that's something that you and your co workers would like to do that it's hosting a drive or your kids in elementary school. Com wanna find a way to get back they're always looking for people to host their own drive and collect donations. Yeah that's a really pretty and turn key easy way to help Foster kids. It's hey we want to like is that we want to make it is easy as possible and really just spread awareness for Freddy yes. So are you do you go to billion mobile or beer. All I know every year is one of those days. He'd definitely you look forward to there's the excitement there's balloons everywhere there's pull in the dark items that every eighteen kids. It's it's just so a lot of fun and I had before but. Really come here that you know we get to the nation's every extra rotation that was a terrible you didn't see the entire community come out. And it's just it's fun to see that many people in one place and giving back to really connect with community. Do you do. All I yeah. Of course I haven't. I haven't you know let him get aware this year that have worn a one he wants but I think this might be the year after you. Bust out day one. Is that you've seen some superheroes and all kinds of Padilla's. And my team's. Frozen with a big hit effort out of up Afro yeah always a big head and the fun part about it too busy you know along with the along with two big jam last week help bowling pins that are decorated. As random characters whether it's Sesame Street with Oscar the Grouch or organ ducks players. We really try to make these ten. Creative then or for donations. You can take a pin home what do you enough funds that you less than on the patent go back to. The Foster kids so just another fun way to get involved in really really hope people. Can come out participate on some April 24. Yeah and he says there's some prizes to win two. Absolutely. You know on top of harm our marquee pride in the grand prize matches except for each team member. I'll blab other other things going on we have a ruffled. Really it better to win going on where it could be you know weekend getaways it could be. An Xbox one time we have some signed autographed memorabilia. There's really all access freeing them prizes out there that you can did little gift cards. So really it is just a sign an atmosphere where it seemed like everybody out there winning. Just talk again about says how the funds that you they raised during the Jim mobile home those are used to help out Foster kids. Yes the funds rate to pitch him on all these help in and it numerous amount of plays whether itself posture you'd given to participate in music lessons. Take ballet lessons or participate in a sport I would do really coolest features that the funds to help what is. So a sibling summer camp. Many of these. Children in Foster care. They can be split from their siblings and these firms while we go to summer camp. But he then gets spent a week reunite with their siblings if they if they are able to see them that often. These these funds are an amazing way to. I'll build confidence hopefuls self esteem if it is. Participating in basketball from the front part Spain's basketball. Or like ads take I needed lessons learned in shipment really find something that they're passionate about in the can continue to offer life. Yeah help out with the fun stuff of being a kid. Yeah right I mean it's hard to imagine not seeing the chance to participate in the Little League or gymnastics. Are you at something as simple that the you know getting tutored the use these funds while the electrical activity so they have the opportunity to succeed. The great serve great fund raiser available this tell us all the details about women Wear and how and all that again. Absolutely we will be having big gamble Saturday April 24 at big album be retain. Easiest way to fed up is going to pick GM mobile dot com. You can get you and that team golf or other so five total. That can cost 250 dollars to get two games of pulling his tee shirt she rental and prizes throughout the day so. We try to make it as easy as possible it'll be eight curry in the fun day of giving back. Every rated help Al Foster kids would have won a fun thing that's we train goes. We wanna continue doing this for years and years to come so. Really making sure the media gets involved and we can keep this thing going. Yeah I hope we have agreed events thank you terror tunnel and community relations supervisor was sleep train thanks for being on the Costco today thank you much.
