Microscope and Entercom radio Portland public affairs program I'm during blocks. This is a great time of year for all of us to be thinking about our community and how we can help out those in man. And that's what we're gonna talk about on the show today. I'd like to look into the show this time Nicole Powell Nicole is community involvement manager and impact northwest. Also Christen Lincoln a broker with living room realty book Demitra scope ladies. Barbara but you guys are doing some amazing stuff impact northwest and living a real you're doing some great stuff during a for the holidays this year. But I think we should probably first introduce our audience to what exactly impact northwest is in the call asking that question what is impact northwest. Well wonderful impact our plans are kind of a community jam I like today because. We where it started back meaning members then 1960s an act of two sides need. You know neighbor to neighbor. You know seniors to need a blond hair or potentially accessed you know food pantry and they came together. To make that you know to the dean people and our community so. You know actually because they turn fifty this year we still have that same mission today. Our mission is to help people prosper if you're me support and we've really grown in the Portland area where. Serving a 36000. Individuals annually firm early childhood through. You know youth and family following student senior style. This is uniquely Portland thing. It's out there Portland's living in power forward. Based in the area where it's definitely a fixture in the Portland community we serve Multnomah County Washington count me. Clock Madonna little into the Clark County Washington so we started just the mom on accounting and we've grown over bill. Part of local community. What sort of services doozy impact request provide. Let them make those kind of unique to leak really provided a whole gambit of services from. Early childhood services tipping. You can families that we have in early childhood we have healthy families parent child development like helping you parents are people who just signed up their parents kind of gain those parenting skills. We have you been failing programs we are part of the suns system which transferred schools uniting neighborhoods which helped the kids. Much after school but also served as a community center hub for parents who might need. You know clothing closets or food pantries or even access the ES salaam. Or English and respectable. English language help for adult and parent and and then we also have like housing and safety net services so maybe about trends. Who needs three vs their families who might be homeless very in transition who needs help. And we also thought helps seniors so I could be with transportation Q. Medical point men or. We have activities that are on forty seconds and Belmont where they can comment kind of specialize in just have you know healthy environments cute you know. Spend time with each other. And I think an easier question might have been what don't you do have the exact that's what I thought that she mpeg northwest of the lot. You know if somebody is in need your services how do they reach out to your how do you reach out to them. Yeah so we have a walking banner on a 102 and burn inside. If 10055. East spring by the third infantry failing pattern. And people are always welcome to walk in and and talk to our amazing docked there if they have questions. We offense are part of that Q1 one of them. Which is among them accounting. Even called two on one for many phone and see what resources are available at any nonprofits such easily the most up to date in LA can go where the researchers aren't. Both are always welcome I you're looking to come in or give us a call our number is 5032947400. And you say you're celebrating your fiftieth. Anniversary this year. Yeah it can believe it or not we're established in 1960 deck and then there's. Our fiftieth anniversary important. Can you give us a little bit of the history Heather how did an all star fifty years ago. Yeah I don't. Didn't it was a grassroots. Effort so it started with a bunch of neighbors to noted that there'll. There's seniors in their neighborhood need help actually started with a bond carefully they're not and just helping seniors who couldn't take care dialogue anymore and then kind of as they saw. More other issue working with this group of people and Tony you know maybe they need help getting access gates to food and medical resource says. We exchanged names the couple planned some people might know us by other teams like Portland impact our packs to bad. We've kind of grown without themed community minded mission as neighbors helping neighbors south. We've ground like a bat in her early child that working with the year from the front of the working with that trend. And it's just kind of gone from the air against the having that idea of people in that community seeing community need and making a difference. How how things changed over those fifty years. Well I think a lot of people in Portland have seen a lot of changes do. I think that as fact change has happened we've shifted those while we used to have one of our main founders on top of the Warren and I think now we have like I mentioned our location on a 102 burned by an up lots of people have noted that shift of need in our community is going further east into Portland. We've done that to you. We didn't have as a robust a veteran services program. And now we really do at that meeting has grown in our community and the guys over kind of grown outward as well we they're not know much counting and I think a lot of people are noticing. That as you know dynamic of you know where it is affordable and where they're needed chance to leave try to shift with them and being in that community so. Think their kid goes in Washington County they have a senior senator and first ground. We serve veteran thank you card Kenny Washington and complement. So just really trying to be. As flexible line and in touch with where our community need is this weekend I think ground. It's pretty amazing how the our community really does change over years you don't really realize until you can just kind of cementing while things have really changed a lot. Yeah I don't think they'll hop earnest but to get eggs their book has. I mean how during used to be that senator needs like I am I believe lipped in Portland for five years. But even in those five years of being really how did you know that shift in where people are looking for services how they can have access to it. And I think coming being able to move out further east was a really great way to stay in that America needs. We're talking today with Nicole how community involvement manager and impact northwest also like to reintroduce Christen Lincoln a broker living room realty. Now Kristen tell me how did living realty and impact northwest get hooked up. I'm Carl Parker religions or lives or impact lord black. Four ears perk like Irvine school loans don't need blue. You know I didn't have my notebook I've. I need to woo the school where as far as saying I'm my also volunteered. He then turns at. This time I was there holiday quarter. Where they're crank it kind of wound shot at no cost or can you could grow and learn for themselves and exploring. And why stop by volunteering wearing. And was the day. Torre who Wear the number 1800. All my effort here I pulled with its huge stack of Torre's than I. You know while going with built on an I was secretly did. That eat you know all these kids are gonna get Corey. Aaron very humble because what I saw Warner parent or. Asking expert fox. Or compassionate. Long. You know outside or key moral unquote couture. Also I thought you were quote the hottest gore. I have to thank them. And so I think more bat and I prayed in my own. Code trial with my friend who will move very women only and and when management little room you know wouldn't be key. Where it will prevent peace corp. Earned an unfamiliar he quirk is basically there are third priority for the Tiki salute the deepest wounds. That validate the couple were to move understood pretty great. Social environment coal you know awareness. Earned critical parent who is looking back. And the fact that they could try to be really great. They are living room to that citizens are that he's doing well and gave more than you hate. When people that I'm a passionate about and make it bigger. And so. The first year we were able to catch it could turn. 40 pockmarked web. And it really. Powerful I've never. On my own people look at a long before. Who care enough to offset that out we see who hurt thank. Kid up or enjoy. A good over. And this. World happy won't ask you this delivery as well when he coached. And so who did it again last year and last year we booed out of the water where gather water all the bias cut. How many 265. Blocked out the door let a hundred that he planned. Body it will be cold that water. Move it feels like a really simple things that. I think most of us who don't have moved. It up and you need our house everything is their code on that clearly or personnel it. And it sounds like that was Kennedy experience you had when you first were introduced to American northwest and you brought. Have a bag of toys and realize old and necessities or maybe more important than the toys are. Yes Aaron who really Aaron. Cook really. Powerful. Mobile terminal. Very humbling I know we'll we'll definitely impacted my view Iran to look. And the co driver is going on again this year. Yet yet set so I want to get at least 200. I think that's doable. More war and I and they plan to blow that's why aren't. And I think what cool he had that great story about the little girl that they're Jewish here are. We I mean. It's always amazing what living room does partners like living room. Feel. The need was. Coats and that's what they bring to us that really does make a difference for clients than when my favorite story of it a lot of last year we had a little girl and one of our school based programs. Through and she was wearing her road to school everyday and I mean it was an adorable hello kitty robe and she loved says. There's obviously not keeping her dry and it wasn't keeping her warm. And so when we got these codes then she was able to pick the hot pink hello kitty color code is needed and shoots you know alarmed. And happy and she felt. Really special on and got the best part is these are all new codes. And so it really does inspired that hope that you know this does that someone thought about me. Yeah maybe that's to me that since this seems like the most important thing that you agree it. So I hit that coat drive is going on now as we say and in how can people make a donation. Aren't they can drop a code I have only one of our leading an office then you have. Or her own courtroom. We have one on seventeen and who actually reflect. We have worn on the current firm in past fourteen Alberta or Norton. Oh and yet another office for our C act conflict in courtroom we'll have an office also all. Two in the village. Aren't so all we see little. And the so called and only one of those off the forward are too good you know be a great place to drop off. The coach Boeheim if he'd go to would woosnam RE dot com. And we're no equal he's opposite coast it's to do and she is that the code when it true that you don't have how to get it where half as. On how cool for me that he wants deliver Coburn and making it be possible to get people want is this culture. Chris in you're all about this this is great. Earn automatic it could be all I would people. Come to school all cart who couldn't. When it was pouring down wrinkle and their current committee is so true and then aren't we are. They have to put it on to go out and playing and that could learn a cold. Couldn't. Believe she apparently moved at all that some bolt can't afford to buy him going back off let over to tackle. Says keep it to lose and easiest way to impact someone's everyday life as I have over the carpet cut. Let's talk about the new the appropriate codes so what type of Coetzer probably best suitable. And I really love again or elementary school small to have a book that he then to riot. You don't necessarily. See what he's he's back home so. Earn something that ought to look at school in effect are the bus stop it between now and some trial and they get to go to create. Aren't shopping for Kool Aid there's. What do you don't mind is they don't wanna show up to school lookalike anywhere I want because they want to or won't. With their peers so it here include about files or more school or middle school. It for the won't lose. Our shop our. You know perfect car at the Celtics who collected the room come their marketing. And how you home. We maximize. Your dollar and move past the first who works there without a little bit. I've most popular because it's who you know but to. I know a lot of the fluid set I say tough Q and as long slow holiday or. Earned my coat the oil well. A lot of wind current honed down goes that world born out of Harvard schools in the possible. So will he coach. Loko could could could. All we really. Well now. What Coco or group of hopefully hopefully that's what I know from some adults to hurt people who needed traditional Navajo went home who. We go back to present workforce. Well a code that they could Wear to work. Woo woo looks sharp or. Firm but also because. Wanting to think about if you are looking to buy a coat and donated coach for a a teenager or Arabia of elementary school kid has to take as a kid in your life with your shopping. Whether that be have a son or daughter or niece or nephew or neighbor kid they will help you pick out the appropriate to refer to their rates. They know what to look at her foot putt but I don't like it and they are. That's a great idea. And it also instills greets my ideas into the into the use mine too when you take him out shopping and let them know what but you do it. Four point oh yeah that's great. They'll come up he seeds you say you are looking for new coats is that correct. Yes not bring because their work. And how I move people. Alone blurred out on row there's this group. Where it was about friend could not amount is so all their own code is or as strong they want. Now suppose somebody listening to a didn't have maybe their opportunity to go out and purchase a coach and and but still wanted to participate how can they do that can they donate money. All put our food donate money I would be happy to shop or the lack of comparable. And Kristen you probably go out and do this view yourself don't you. Wow I can hear that in your voice that you would do shocking hit a. Yeah patent is definitely my kids and I we go out and BC chapel they pick up because then I Israeli court and it because I can see. Well hold me to be felt. I'm really don't have among young core of you don't have movie where I felt so work what happened. Cynical from impact northwest let me ask you what does this mean now living realty so involved in in helping the semi here. Others as you know it's so wonderful and and that this third third year in then went it and that there really. How bad their targets high handing them the first year with dignity and that it was over a 160 and I know that shall blow her goal. Cost 200 out of the water this year and it's just. It really speaks to the Portland community and how engaged they are and passionate and living rooms amazing passion for what they do you went. A big part of how we succeed in this community as a non profit is. To have support of great partners like power always looking for our. Amazing partner if you want a volunteer or donate. You know cash which keep their doors so bad marriage you know that give back like that this kind of partnership is an amazing piece of what makes us. Successful. And the coat drives me being presented by leaving a real T is also part of your. Holiday hope try this going on right now to tell some alcohol they hope drive. Yeah us for the holiday hope kind of public good dimension has agreed to we've been doing it than we've started it in different generations we really found that. The best way we did. Now is to. Really focused in on what the real need is from our clients can make it as easy as possible for them to accept that so we used to do historical we found that. Though the weather in transportation issues can be challenging for client accounts and now we. We bring you all to our location. Went off under impact and burned diet. And we have our wonderful case manager teams. I'm shop for their clients can bring your rate to them so there's a variety of ways to kind of get involved four X. We're always looking for partners like living or realty in the organization or business to want it do you employee giving her arranged some sort of drive. We're always looking for individuals who might be interest that then again mentioned cash donations which helped put the time of the year but also keeper doors open your round. We have giving Garland all over Portland. Which are. Little Garland our business partners how. That each one have an ornament defiant in each ornament list of wedge from one of our clients. And living her realty in addition to supporting the contract also all four of their locations have a giving Ireland's two years he can about where you can go to our web site. At holiday hope drive dot ORG did the although locations and other ways you can get involved. But there's. I believe we have thirty locations across Portland including bishops barbershop and a albeit all by that communities bank and beneficial bank. And Finnegan toys there's a lot of locations three can pick up an ornament for the giving Garland so. We're always looking for people can help out or are always looking for volunteers as well. Leading into it sounds like you really can't miss and Ming able to help out. Camaro lesser effect here everywhere that's fantastic. It's so great and you know we arrived so much on amazing support out. A script then that the timing here and but also all of our partners and my guess that's. I mean there aren't looking for volunteers for the holidays that year round and is that such a great time to get back but we're always looking for partners you wanna get involved. Two more about how they're giving garlands working dude do you purchase an ornament in that donation goes to your macro press is that how it works. Well it each. Ornament lit. A gift that are one of our client wants if you don't lock into one of the living room real few locations you can kind of looked through all the wishes. But our clients have put out there and you can find one that speaks to Yale. And his pull that off the girl and and then take and you can shop where we like to get it then there's little information on the back read by your information so we can thank you thank you know and a tax receipts. And then you attach the order it backed they unwrapped gift you just spot and then dropping off at any of those same giving Carla locations throughout. That allows us to get exactly what our clients really want it and make it as easy as any hope on are wonderful donors as possible for the and you can kind of pick up that one plays in drop off somewhere else or bring it back a living there realty. On those ornaments what kind of items are using. When you really like Christian that I think that it's often. Not what you would expect because a lot of time. People are looking for just a basic things that help them so I think people should not. Beat the present something like it being air might want but that it towel or a pillow. A warm blanket. Also a lot of Ari are you often won and don't fund boys stealing feel neither the whole variety. I'm a lot of our families are transitioning out of homelessness. We were with a lot of domestic abuse survivors. So a lot of times during times of transition so that he'll be a lot of people who asked for. Please forward over where things they're really good restart their home. Which I think it's really nice to be able to to support it like for the holiday gift but you're also going to be part of their news you know that. As they start take you know gain their independence again. Chris and let me ask you in the last couple minutes we have here tell us all again about the man the coat drive and how we can help out much looking forward to drop off donations. I was lucky that. You can drop wolf first light we'll help fund buying a friend you are Nikko. We're seeing the three or four. How long it is up. They're gonna bust that 200 I believe it. We're gonna bust that that 200 began its own nearly. What really easily for most of us can pack them in else's life and gave me this very dramatically. So. Army's top food banks cut their coat. At her parents up to code people who. You. Don't let me. But when you have ears ears code blue your car include our own living room often you have an office or moved northeast southeast reflect. All and our mother of the village in southwest. You can buy an RB actresses who is crucial match. Are living room RE dot com. Allard. 9530. Or you can cut off of coastal Poland's implications. Single and they're now. You guys are doing just really great work to help our Portland community that's fantastic. No. What dating back to the tool is that we perform. I hope you'll keep us updated wanna see how many over 200 coach you get this year. More. And I have no doubt you're of their past few hundreds if it's absolutely secure the spirit certainly the beer I think everybody can look wound. And how cool. How will help others. Are hit it for a death row now. Take it called action in the village here.
