This is microscope and Entercom radio Portland public affairs program. I'm Gary blocks of one of the biggest events that happens in our area over the fourth of July is the Saint Paul rodeo and this year the Saint Paul rodeo is July 3 through the seven. What are the great aspects of the same ball rodeo is that they raise money for the Justin cowboy crisis fund which helps out cowboys when they get injured. And that's all we wanna talk about this time on microscope on the show this time I would like to welcome Julie Jordan Juli is the executive director of the Justin cowboy crisis fun. And we're also talking today with Josh Clark PR CA you've steer wrestler and a JC CF recipient hey guys welcome to microscope. Hello Brad and I. So Julie let's get started when you first what is the just and public crisis and. Just like crisis band nor Casey Diaz is a 501 C three charity organization. And our mission is to essentially lend a helping hand to professional or any athlete and their families. In the event of serious injury and injury as a result for professional or your activity it. Our goal is really to fill a void a financial hardship when the end inevitable serious injury interferes with their careers. We're we're fairly unique. In charity is the just than it company and appear CA. Cover all of our administrative costs. So 100% of our donations that we receive. Goatee disbursement eligible applicants so a 100% of the money that folks panic us goes directly to are injured tabloids. That's pretty great a 100%. Under present that is the nominee nonprofits to say about. You know it's the is that we're really blessed. By the Japanese company and appear DA that they afford us that at bat right because we all know that those costs. Just operating costs can be very expensive so we talk a lot about a 100% real contribution will apple. Just I guess you can answer this question it's not a matter of if it's a matter of win you get injured as Eric. Yeah a little bit I mean our sport is full contact early Boerse so the all sports. You. Animal is what we do stumped when your career you will be your skin and it they're a little better guarantee. You know animals Camille Little unpredictable right. So Giuliani and one of the one of the big things that's coming to the Portland area very soon on the fourth of July of well for the boys and a Wednesday this year can't really say weekend over the fourth of July holiday. Is the same Paul rodeo and the Justin cowboy crisis fund is a big part of the scene already. It is be. And it doesn't have a great the front and ready athletes have a lot friends there and Saint Paul. What parity at committee and to be community. They have organized the fundraisers and that they host a series of events or about fund raiser too on raising money for us and to bring awareness to our cause. It started back in 2011. Yep 2011. And Saint Paul organize its first event predicted Piaf and into when he eighteen. It's no different than they have a period of three fundraisers leading up to ready a week and during radio each. Where they do that they do such notoriety her. That raises money through there auction for us. At there hall of fame barbecue which is on Monday do I expect instant on they do another auction. Or at the president's plan and then on July 4 at the Radio One dollar per every ticket sold goes to the just in public I. That we just want to thank our community loves us. They love our travel is and we just we really can't thank them enough for their support and certainly encourage everybody get out there are audio and participate them. In all the they have gone on. It is one of the biggest reveals I think on the West Coast is now. It's huge. The act yes Josh are you energy there. Yeah I am I will be there July it. I'll be I'll be in that area July 2 third or a bit but don't like it but I'll keep it at all. Just have you been to the seam ball real before. I had not in years past we tried to enter we are always. Like in other areas we're going to see. Our topic Jonas ought and a. It just can never make work to get up or YouTube. This year I decided to go to sleep eat out in years past. And it may really be together Q thank all. Tournaments in the actually I'm very exciting you know it all. Tossed the of the summer season is pretty busy for you right. Yes very. Yet trying to be informed me started the state last beat out but how much are for. Not a bad and I'm Janet through wheat and I was out be on the road one rodeo. Almost every day in September. Gold medal in the middle of nowhere you are now. I am. Am I stopped in Montana. And he can't we heard it central what are now at two. Just can you tell us how you were hurt and held to just in public crisis when helped you out. Yeah its but first injury started at a partnered it and it audio. She doesn't have to Pete. And I looked at Brooke's bone in my knee. And who we are at church six weeks off had lunch break all the light. And just think we saw the B it would heal that all people age surgery. And we just hope to encourage your best case scenario that I can return to calm issued it a week. Which after that the purity and I went teed it that's in the practice and just practice and for parents here. Go to rodeos we made it it did she not have the surgery. It just keep my idea for a. And end up practically Eric we got it off. And almost caught him burden that Jerry bike right correct or mark or I'll. Would now want definitely requires surgery aired a bit about it bought off. Will if one or elude to that point. But watch out both her little bit agent medical deals we're gonna be astronomical through. Surgery. As well as you'd probably get the work orgy watched T heard. Ordered that mutt yeah that's what I stout street just correct arc. Based yeah. Whitbeck Mormon Church. Donation. Did you just go. You know tiger broke you know you all are built and managed. And keep of course you didn't trucks trailers and things. To return to her. In this huge. For them to step it up about. And help keep you low water. That's amazing out. Yet these these are just little injury is not like you move maybe cracked a river broke a finger is on the regular bouts drip of Richard just muscle off the ball well what. You. Are easy. Yeah I in what on the all. And then do an injury to any. You know to the source grid form but it would have been Carty or keep it job. Do much any money so that was that was based jet just occur at that. Japanese patient they'll not do not go to work at all. Yeah Julie it sounds like wouldn't be hearing just a story it's pretty obvious but how how the organization so important to professional cowboys. Yeah you bet he nailed it there there are no guaranteed salaries or injured reserve. Per pretty athlete. You know often times when they have injury. And they can't work in the charity oh. They are they are kind of been up in financial hardships that are possibly gonna have their way so we know that traumatic. You know traumatic injuries and rodeo I cannot stress and pressure and the burden a financial worries and so we're just really pleased with our charities that we can step up and help it cavaliers. And their family is. It's something that. Is. And it's really cool job and nickel program. We're approaching our thirtieth anniversary we're celebrating 28 years this year. Those 28 years mark Adeline had a hand up not a hand out I'm twenty years of giving cowboy thing about. Not hand out and and Josh is a great example of that. He has yet to return to radio and he has to become and advocates and a voice search AC you know and we. We appreciate all that he does than the other cowboys that help us spread the word. How did the justice and public crisis and get started to say it's you're coming up on thirty years so low how to how to build it started. Thirty years yeah back in. Well technically nineteen. But the data is the date varies it's eating the when the foundation technically started that we beat we formalized in 1990 and really executed in 91. Belly or raising money at that time on the entire time for cowboys. But it ticket you know little bit of time to get on track there was really and John Dawson who is. A long time with the just and it company and on a great icon in the radio industry and the bid to the Webster B to manufacture hill. Got together with a few medical doctors. And monsters and and realize there's a need for that you know going back to. Our guys are are under contract they're professional athletes that they do not have those reserve provisions. Or guarantee is and though. Backed group realized early on that this was something that time. With needed for our sport and way to play a full speed ahead from their. How much money has been distributed so far given India. We have just that and when he is seventeen distributed over eight million dollars to enter or is well. That's pretty awesome. And what do we don't know how worked out every year that we always managed array is just about exactly the same amount of money that we distribute door cowboys. We are and it worked every year I don't know how revealing Angel Turks. It is really an eagle and and and committee is like ain't all sitting on these fundraisers for us you know we couldn't. Raise this money without the support of global rodeo community. Tell us more about how the money's going to be raised here here in simple. Shirt so they've actually party hosted one fund raiser on it with a pair pancake. Breakfast and they are trail ride. And they have a silent auction there where we donated. Among other items we donated should tickets to the Wrangler in a bar which is our Super Bowl ready to help them Las Vegas every system. And then they will do on Monday July 2 they will have that. It's basically bear hall of fame and they do a hall of fame dinner and they'll do an auction there are raising money for us. And then the beyond the big fundraisers the big fundraiser they do which is July 4 so everyone to attend the July 4 rodeo will donate to the crisis and that. Just you're purchasing a ticket. And you can check out and learn more about him already I think already had dot com their schedule and dominate them buy tickets on line. But we get to gather community is amazing they have we have a special place in their heart and and likewise from our cavaliers went back to them well. The Dustin Keller crisis fund that you did you guys do this all over the United States right. Mediocre yes we have a lot of radio committees around the country back on supports the initiative. And it and it and every committee does something different it depends on what their community will will support and and participate and so we have a lot of fundraising golf tournament. We have a big fashion show. Just a lot of different things that people do a lot of radio school very used to use some fundraising and education about the death and how what president band. Now it looks different every community but at the end of booted out trying to raise money to her for a couple of her. And the simple rodeo is coming up on July 3 through the seventh and Josh you're you're gonna be here for the single rodeo. And more what is your specialty. You're at the mounds you're from would be much specialty arbiter to why it. I think flak that morning at the back all or that debt. Kiki and that's. So tell me about I know I'm not a cowboy so preface that this question without a tell me what is steer wrestling. What do you have to do. OK. Okay those spirit plane. I it is you'll ride a perfectly good force chasing after age five to 600 Al. Here. And at UST here you give all that perfectly good horse dog chewed. A while aren't at all and the chance Tressel or else. In a nutshell what Coke for their comic humor each Pete Pete or equity common target while Jerry. For the perfect. The horse was perfectly fine. With it at the. Yeah how long haul you off didn't do you Michael and always shall we. But. Now that get a candidate and a chill out we're going back but horse eat back. Year grip about or that about thirty miles an hour. Should it side. And you've been doing it. Aren't you in in. Yes bargain that's when I'm worth twenty Greece so a month to twelve years. And you come from a long line of cowboys. I'm you know we aren't sure what everybody not only. Trip around Barbie cheap shot cheap open. Jennifer you're a look at it and pretty it up. You don't my brother and I and our family are called it first or they went up number oh. Trent Cole I have all our. You don't intent that it that it rodeo on Bert I'm. So you have. Most are tied to go to jail always trooper outfit and some cheaper or. And you've been seriously injured like you told us earlier and you keep coming back why you keep coming back to rodeo. Our current. And don't let her. They're but yeah I just got its current or retired morning acquire. Each you know our ask the court in new. I don't know you know it didn't really helped a niche that you need people of all are so it cannot find people like it. The other sports. Picture or oral. So. Some of it into a big part people that you sir help wit and heart beat wake up people liked it. I. Already. People. Indian eligibility to capture one challenge different Alan what dates in next. You know they can't itself competition at dribble Russia get some of what. It's ready yet we are what you part of it the rest of my life oh Q well. That's a great no win win review bad badly injured column goes out. Now. The knee injury start ever since January. Into February to doubt that he'd. Had in pretty. But bad. April. April 18 two down seventeen and certain. So your your pretty much back to back to normal rate at least 99%. Yeah I'd at least 99%. That's their armor that that the no I I'd return to competition in the first week of October. Last year. And then and had no. Tell he had no problems since then. Age people aren't from jet or. Tell me how important just in public crisis fund was for viewing your family and how important it is to your fellow cowboys. You know I I think you do is probably felt the middle lot of child when he. Take for granted a little bit or don't fully recognize the importance of that so experienced that. You know I I do know a whole lot about it. In settle. I get credit you'll hate them. To what you'd stained injury it just enjoy it but don't get to step outs. Keep China export and to be the process and you'll meet a lot. 81 turned meat to. Contact them. You know it. I know that without. Jake you yep we would I would and it speech hurt competition. The way it did by the first of October. You basically. I was able to spend that I'm. Well it's dark rehab. Eat healthy chalker. So that I should go back competition. Instead it's not what I work which it still. Ortiz. Keep track straight or Orson you don't think that we worked for for years to. Yeah it. New York there are enforceable bill or or when you include financial burden. You can move forward rodeo. Hold out hope. I mean I would hope a meal that indicate job or little bit or spread that word but yet. Support. Yeah yeah I think what the downfall not the right word but one thing we're all cowboys all receiver. Well but. I think you'd have to do to do what you do. You've got to have the confidence to get get out there and do that. Yeah we we do it in the way you know it. There. So now that money to these medical bills or because it gives you Rhode. You talked all of these days every. I don't think gently yielding do you what we do you see. A situation new injury that that's been a court. Justice since you've been helped out with the just in public crisis when you know what it's like you know you're doing you some of your time. To tell about the just in public crisis on why that's so important to you. RRB I think you're in ATP should you should you back I don't even want. Should ought to be there. Today they've got where they're asked you whatever outlook to bet there are their careers or they can get there without. Someone helping. Or. And it. You know whether be in order true sure but like that album and I have only people a lot Charles key you know immediately. Had trouble always try to keep you back at the other guys are Europe or whatever. Yeah. You know eight Fiat help beef with the outside. He got our secure. You know whether it be a net debt or are all that nation or radar. Richard Baker what they. Also talking today with Julie didn't Julie's executive director of the just until a crisis fund. And Julie do you hear this from within the Josh seems like super humble but you probably hear this from cowboys' all time right. I do. As a general rule that tablet we help our. Very appreciative and it means a lot to them and their family and and I would take just a moment to brag on Josh he. He really does get backed organization he contacted me prior to the Wrangler in a fire last year and that hey I'm going to be out there. Let me know what I can do to help you and I that a we have a crazy fundraising schedule time can you help here here in here under my outlook than you its schedule. And so. I email them at schedule and what you just patient but everything and it and he wanted to get back to the charity and he wanted to help. And like a lot of our cowboys. It doesn't matter what Ari in money for the crisis under what the job whether it. Helping us a raffle tickets there carry boxes or share his story. And he he showed up and and did it and it was very clear that. Barely made it different than have liked but has family life and so you know we get out a lot of people but. I would also comment. If you had to talk a lot about your plane and I'm mr. Blair's not like a lot of our group but they're very they're very tight knit group. And you know we recently had a comic image and name Billy recently had an injury of your wrestler. To do it unable to contact and he was seriously hurt. And within twelve hours of his injury I had heard from. I have to doesn't era players. Calling that they did you hear about that can you help. What can we did just facilitate. Getting involved this cowboys some of the them. And down you would you know a lot of our event but I would happily stay calm here at literate guy that group. And are ready a family of the the fairly tight knit group looking out for one another and and trying to get. Give each other Albanian. Essentially one big family kind of all across the nation you know we Cummings or a a rodeo when we hear from out of town and you feel like you know everybody all wants. Even if you don't know these people. Yeah I think that's true and I am sure got you agree right Josh I mean wherever you go are you break it down on the road somewhere I'd like to do I know here. Yeah but yeah it. Into maybe how it you don't have to do this very long at that network people at EU each animal part. He can make the and a couple oncology the other side of the country. And people called waged a huge paper so much better met before the patent. Well it it is that ended may. Jam played the road oral. Julie unless I believe you interviewed Nickelodeon last year obviously you're not yeah okay though neck and he just posted on FaceBook as two weeks ago. He literally up in the northwest this car broke down and he hitched a ride back to another audio in Southern California with his era players are so it is definitely. Family. Heredia and. You know to we got a commitments let us know exactly how we can help up to Justin Keller crisis fund at the same already this year. That's so I encourage everybody to go to think already a dot com check out there event schedule. Certainly attend the July 4 rodeo in itself out fast so I would recommend folks go buy their tickets now. You can donate that's without without really donated to pressure you're buying a ticket and I think our audio is going to. Make a donation back to the crisis bunt they have I would say that they've started we're immigrant who found they have donated over 100000 dollars is. Our cost. Com allowing us again to get these troubling the hand up. So I would recommend people go if you think our radio dot com. Check it out and learn more about the death and public crisis front I don't think tablet prices are dot org or were very active on FaceBook and in the grandma under Justin Gallagher at the front. It's really hard to believe that the fourth of July is so close that simple rodeo is less than two weeks away. That's crazy act the. Yeah yeah we're Goliath the big big holiday Fuller rodeo it's them we call it the home of the college cowboy Christmas. There's a great number of ready at happening are cavaliers. Make a lot of money over the course of July those they're gonna come in your community and and get on down maybe another audio on the area but. They're very active during the 4 July during Talbott. We'll have a great rodeo season we've been talking today with Julie didn't executive director of the just in public crisis fund and Josh Clark will be performing at the same bull rodeo did you say July 6 just.
