On the show this time I would like to welcome Sarah limit Syria is the marketing coordinator with Neiman plastic surgery. Also this time is Stephen brunt show community outreach manager with the center for hope and safety. And Emily nieman doctor Newman's wife welcome to microscope they can't give anecdotally and it's correct yeah. So well let's get started today by talking to Stephen and finding out what the senator from opens atheists. Sir again thank you for having me here sir the center for health and safety is a nonprofit Meserve Salem area Marion Polk count mean. And we help victims of domestic violence sexual assault human trafficking and stocking. That's a big undertaking yes today is going to be has been to a network we've been around for 45 years while. That's amusing that. So tell me about some of the services you offer to your two people come into your place. Source we have a 24 hour crisis line that's answer in English and Spanish train for hours a day 365. Days a year. We also have a cell terror in me. Undisclosed location and so it people are fleeing their abusers they contempt the last and we can do an intake. And then idealist set them up and actually house and we sit anywhere from 300 to 500 people per year in a safe house from half of them being children at any given time. We offer support groups in English and Spanish firm's domestic violence and sexual assault. And we also do outreach education and training institute that are communities well. That's a lot of work. That's a bit it's amazing work great yes oh yes we're really need to be there for a community I've been at the South Africa safety for three years now okay. How have you seen things change or lose yours. One of the things that changed is the length of stay in a safe house I'm I'm. As parlance is aware of Salem also has. Housing crisis. And shortage. I unsettling to stay has more than doubled and I safe house trying to get people aren't the next step into transitional housing has. Proving more difficult in the last few years. Sir let me turn to you conceived by and a coat Neiman plastic surgery is is connected with the server open safety. Well I eat and alerts about listener from open CD through a friend of mine his head and use their services I am in a domestic violence situation. And she became very close friend of mine and so. Guesses about three or four years ago. And so when I got in touch when at the center for health and safety a few years ago my family just did a small little. Collection drive for Christmas collecting underwear socks toys for the kids lankans those kinds of and then when I got an inch touch with the name and plastic Syria and friends with them for awhile they came on to be their marketing coordinator in January. And we had been thinking series to do and so. That immediately. Russ and a broken safety into my mind and so. There was just an easy fit being that we work with a lot of women. Hume you know could have been helped by the center for health and safety that you know I just found out that there are services some and there are mission. And so I'm doctor Nieminen is on board with that and it's just been a perfect fit. You know something and matched by a perfect match perfect match yeah great leaders have an event coming up of relatively soon August 15 summit about. We do we're actually doing abroad donation drive for the center for health and safety we're hoping to raise. Come and collect a lot of brought us. All shapes all sizes. From betweens up until you know grandma's. Betts and we're also waiting to raise many they're looking to build Adam. You know more transitional housing is especially right now they're wanting to do that had a house. In a lot of kids need their pets for their comfort to and they can't bring their pets and so we wanna help. Raise some money so that they can build that that pet home for those kids who need their puppies American east and keep them come. Yeah that it's probably it's really important to keep the kids comfortable. Stephen is that it has the right now yes we definitely trade do what we can to help the people staying safe house and one of the projects as are safe house project. And so we are raising and stability eighty pet shelter. Next to our safe house and so people who are coming into use Sulzer. Are able to bring that their pets of course we take service animals now that'd be nice if we can take Katzen died some other small. That's like I mean is and what not and it was how it there on site so. The owners the people staying ask him see that at times daily basis how many children are used news service. I'm again at their their ranges today anywhere from Hendrick ten and fifteen year these children are and I safe house throughout the year and Alter come to support groups of their moms have a child advocate that'll work with our children. That staying safe house that comes apart groups and do different kinds are there peace out there piece that the children now. Visit my mostly women with children org or single woman are kind of everybody. Aunts that we eat we see in mixed or so we actually do it right services to amend also so many seeking services. We are here to help man to bet the number speedy Gonzales VD's I'm. Most of the women miss the people we serve our women and again is a mixture of single men and women with children we've not had minced and I shelter with their children just the patents. It's great Libya bunting and introduce Emily Neiman threw away from doctor Neiman know what does it mean for you and our agreement to be so involved with the center for open safety. Let it means a lot too less we service we service. You know women on a different level in the office that being able to reach out of the community. And an all walks of life. As it's been very important to us. Q that's from that's this sounds like really important work in him and middle again the perfect fit because you are working with women so closely. It's great. Stevens only some myths about domestic violence would what are people misunderstanding opener. And. Think when the things that people misunderstand is. Domestic violence is about power and control Aniston believe someone that has the belief that they have the right to to have power control over someone else. And aspects. All ages. All class systems. Economic social backgrounds all cultures and it's not limited to any one specific type of person. I'm thinking according to a study that says Center for Disease Control did. For Horry again. They said that in Oregon minus three women will be a victim of domestic violence sexual assault polar stocking in her lifetime. Well yes so it it's it has no barriers. That's refreshing. And so we demon six surgery we feel that being at least service and many women a lot of our patients can't have. Gotten services from the center for health and safety. Or at least been a part of that statistic which is really really sad and so I myself actually. Was the recipient of services many years ago twenty years ago so for me personally it's something that's crossed my heart. And notice like to have to flee in the middle of the night. And it seek help from strangers and pieced back together your life. And so having having resources available to you especially when your alone as a teen mount. Can be life changing and it's very important. That is a scary moved to tooth that flea spray them. Would you mind sharing your story a little bit. Well it was years ago I am. I was married previously and I lived overseas. And it just became meant a dangerous situation and I can see that in it was something I had to strategically plan. Over time name. How I can leave and I and sell it he became a matter. Keeping away in the night. With what I had saved in my head she wasn't just. Leading to go to save she was leaving to leave that country right to flee back to America. There is. Yes it was an unsafe situation innocent. But it was also a time when I uniting half. Management me and so I was able to skate together to snap to fly down and not as it. Panel and some legislative. The IMO he. Long time ago and happens. Now when things about com. Domestic lying violence and clean. It's not any event as a process. And on average it takes time and times are. For the victim survivor to leave their abuser and so it at the center and safety we never know where semi isn't their journey -- first time the content same meaning it can be the seventh time that weren't there to provide as many services as we possibly cancer that. Survivor and help them. With the safety plan mean whether it's something as simple as here's my one cell phones they can hide in your house so if you find yourself in a dangerous situation are locked in a roomy. Hopefully have a cellphone and there. Or can be mart stands at safety playing like a cave you are going to leave. Do you have friends and family contact can get your many your idea credit cards I'll and one area your medications. And whatnot and when you irate to leave haven't I'll packed app. And then come to pass or earth are we can pick you up anywhere Marion Polk counties in a safe neutral place and whether it's. 12 o'clock in the afternoon or 2 in the morning we will do transport and we will bring you to our advocacy center and we will take it from there and help you with whatever services we cam. Our services are free of charge we don't ever ask for any money. This senior bureau Mahan to buy around the clock yes that's obviously percent. So unfortunately you've probably heard stories they get late Emily is quite often if somebody listening. Right now hasn't been domestic violence situation going on in their life what would you recommend to them. I'm. To know that you're not alone. You don't deserve what's happening and we believe ill. And connect with your local domestic violence shelter or. Invest like call our members by his error 33997722. Again answer calls trying for hours a day in Essex at five days a year and a toll free numbers 1866399. 772. Tail. Taking that first up must be the scariest. The scariest of campy yes. Sir let's talk more about the event you have some of them because that it is in full support of the center programs interest that. The jury to Windiz again. August 15 Wednesday evening from 530 to 738. And it's a parking lot party but we will have big tracks. We will have. Lots of raffle prizes that have been donated from Salem area businesses which were a super excited about. And we will lead Don King meant not so we will be having it dunk tank and you couldn't. But to around the doctor I guess just relax the better word at this hour. I was stuck Lehman filled up the I'm pretty this past that when I have to appreciate the job. We feel the yeah doctor England really wants to get out into the community and talk with the people that attend and so he would like to have doctor Sheehan and take that. I mean maybe he'll step on to the podium we conduct became a public I'm better now. Yeah the only elegant and in the water out continue future husband to do that only that is. If a sucker for every. So it still don't forget about the flops all over 20 yeah we just don't know. I'm excited I'm finally out here that we would do flossing competitions a doctor cause she hits and also works with. You know plastic surgery his rather. And surgeon. And he and he says he has that killer flossing may have. And so Hillary flossing movement yet have you heard of the plus mil they ended dance oh against them again crossing your do you know well. It's a lot more complicated I met him. But. It teammates so we're thinking of doing and a flashing competition and having doctor Christine Hansen. You know I think it's Los better than doctors see that we have announced and we have another minute I'll talk to. Don't we ever crossing. Both Fo how. He hey. We as a black male name lady greeted. But you gotta gotta get me or if you're busting up sort of the goal of of the event. We would like. To raise as much many as we can to benefit the center friend opens in the end of course collect process Litsch and their recent Miley we picked rises because you know we do. Surgeries for breast augmentation and breast cancer and breast reduction all kinds of things like that. And and these women are changing their bra size and a lot of people don't know that you can donate. New or gently used processes says center compensate dear other offices like that. And and when Mitt wham women leave their homes they've taken very little with them. And so. This weekend you know people donate clothes they donate do things like that that very little. Are they donating for us. And so. In this kind of works with that can separate the girls which is and nationwide nonprofit organization. And they collect. Bras and feminine hygiene products where homeless women are victims of domestic violence kind of in the same situation at center for health and safety help. And so. Just kind of running off their backs and using their. Their platform and kind of working with them a little bit tint to benefit us and consultancy fees and support the girls and nationwide organization Greg it is yes and you vote we defer to your star of this yes my awesome friend Dana Marleau added. Started the organization a few years ago actually when she'd last about. How about fifty pounds and she wasn't sure what to do with their old bras she walked into Selma boutique. And they said you know last time they are really. And in need of those for homeless women and so she hit great. I'll start a collection I did she just put had a little notice on face but her friends and family. And they started donating bras and feminine hygiene products and it just grew from there and so she has offices bird. Locations all around the country and even internationally. Did. To lack collect present ever hygiene products for those in need Indian within hurricanes in Florida and in Texas. And they were able to donate thousands of bras to those who have lost their homes and lost everything so it's not just for that. For that. Domestic violence leaders and victims. It's also for those who have tragedy and they need something. Yeah we're against the battle fires that are going on absolutely California those people need some serious help me really do they really do sell. Super excited to be working with the center for health and safety we just love them. Really appreciate all that they do for our community this is the person you guys have teamed up to do an event and this yes and asked her. Very excited and we appreciate. Now the Steve what does it mean to him Neiman plastic surgeries so involved. It means a lot everything that they Downey and race for assets less money that we have to stand which is arming that we can pack into programming like and we are not prop and in about a third of our budget comes from. Businesses and individuals find out text class are joining in kind donations. If people wanted to make a donation you have and into. Again they can call up higher office that five cents or 33781572. Paper towels toilet paper diapers. And give your own household times that I couple. Does and and that that's the household that we serve and actually house and we provide everything to the residents are safe house from clean. Products and food to medications cosmetics might not. Years later saying earlier these people that are coming to you world coming Britain really not much more than what's on the back meant exactly. Yet many easily show up on our doorstep where it what they have gone and that's lately they have that's really. It's amazing just success stories you can share this and sure some people of who have. Done really well with your help I'm. The surrogate of the marketing coordinator what me and I know what that means but I don't know what brought you to continue in plastic surgery.
