Established in 1953 Scotland memorial gardens and funeral home. Has grown into a full service funeral home and cemetery and like to welcome our first -- a microscope she is Rachel fox general manager with -- dignity memorial skyline memorial gardens hi Rachel. -- doing very well how much you. Aren't doing while playing great so -- -- get started first by having you tell us a little bit about let's -- memorial gardens provides. I'm just felt we are her on situated up and the northwest -- the heartland. And we have one of the most beautiful vistas in the Portland area and we offer personalized. Flight operations. Funeral service and we have some creation options memorial location you're -- beautiful cemetery property and we also have. -- on staff. We offer catering and event space and we'd like to be engaged with the community. Well -- may end with that in mind you have a big community event coming up concerns about the. Yeah no. So I think you know I started it started to hear about July last year and my staff came to me that. This is a great property we wanna do something fun. To make outreach to the community. And -- showcase our partnership split. Organ can't spend it like it -- hospice. And -- -- honor whenever veterans groups. And so. We've -- parking and we really put -- for the great spot to have accrued and because of the way the currents are laid out. We have the least tenured dry blade that really can showcase the cars you know oftentimes we'll see each. I have a car owners happy you're taking photographs because it's such as serene beautiful -- And so we decided to have -- -- Kirk treason. And that's when I made outreach cases -- Canon lit up like at the hospital -- peace of mind. And then in the meantime. I was contacted by missing in America which is -- veterans group. Hysterical working on a project together to. Can it go through that cremated remains that we have here at Carolina spent on claims to. I'm gonna see if any of them are -- and and so that the partnership that dignity memorial has what's missing in America. We also have our partnership. Split the national hospice. And legacy happen so we got what that is just -- great. Ideas to come by it at all on showcase their cute to me partners that they in America and let it happen. As silly to say that this treatment. Is to light that at 4 PM and we're gonna he has. Some oldies plane we're gonna have team. We're gonna have detachable. Which has. Local favorite -- -- -- -- And we're gonna have giveaways. And trophies preferred car owners train courage any credit Kirk. Owners can -- club and its. Given your brain and let -- -- to come in silicon Panama and at the free event and the really that focused. It's going to be. And legacy hospitals kept people reminded -- America and the community can learn more about these two great groups. Fantastic -- that in mind let's bring in Laura -- choose a volunteer coordinator with legacy -- -- peace of mind pylori. I care so tell us about what that peace of mind is. Well the mind is the grant that we received from Banfield and it enables have and there are I -- our patients to stay together and the life. A lot of times our patients aren't able. To care for their animals that end the life and so we help them to be able to do that. What services do you provide. We provide volunteered to go out and they'll -- they're animals. Clean cages. Litter box says things like that we also have volunteers and we'll pick the animals up from the -- arms and take into the worthy. Rumor and we also pay for some of those services that they need it. Vaccination and grameen -- take medication. Supplies things like that. They're well that's vaccine we have eight pet photographer that won't go out pick picture. The patient and the -- And we won't poured them that they needed if they need to go into it and check in a fresh record it's time we will board them and we do to help every 080. One thing we know about Portland his we all of our pets I'll sit there and that -- a big let down yeah that's out so well. Do you take care of all kinds of pets. All kind of had. It doesn't just eliminate the -- dog it's now about pretty predominantly what most people have. But it can be made byters bench whatever that needed bird we have had one request for. To help clean cages of stuff for birds but if any -- can -- farm animals if they if that's a pickup. Well that's pretty expensive. Yes I think this that it might we are so thankful. -- partner with dignity memorial on. So many of -- coming up and we went in particular. With the -- that is just and we feel very privileged. Impotence in. Well considering there's gonna be hundreds of people at the highway to heaven crews in. What are you hoping for with their crews in -- telling. Well we're not think to bring more awareness of our program to people that they know what we do and what we're here for and also hopefully to raise money for because we need to replenish our funds are grant. Hopefully to raise some money for our program Opsound. Given the other -- play in the summer. We do we have a -- a lot southern Gresham this Saturday. June 21 and it's going to be from tend to want. And I were also part -- partnering with dignity on -- event. And it's just a little competition and you know like best Zellweger. Bathtub and -- human muscle leg. And then we also do a little -- parade and we have activities where you know the full we're gonna -- baby gets -- the -- stuff like that. I should be. Off the yeah I -- that we have another when we're going to be doing -- patent suit that are cropped up a full on June 20 F. Or not change when he and I apologize it's September -- -- -- up and that land. We rolled. Well be part of the festival down there so I'm we'll be dumped -- all they operate any. -- -- It's only give a busy summer went out and let let let's great -- -- kicks off the cruise in which is doing in July 5. Yes absolutely we are so excited to do that with them. Great born the other beneficiaries is the missing in America veteran's project that like to bring in -- team he's the national finance officer hi -- I. So tell us about what is the missing in America veteran's project. -- Well. We know what are we as funeral homes of course like dignity. Our coroner is different agencies where there are cremated remains. That has not been claimed. All of for a thousand reasons you know they're just on the shelf. And our goal is to locate. They identify. The veterans and spouses and even children that were underage at the time and try to find family. We have researchers that do that forests. And we've located a lot of family -- working in conjunction with the funeral homes such as dignity there. And that's the best that I mean that's the great thing we get him back with their family if not to -- actually. At various times when no -- would claim we would find for them and do a service. To the local -- cemetery. And -- way Quinn their at a local VA cemetery. If some future date someone relative. Come to rely on goes up to the funeral homes says hey you know uncle Joseph was here are. We just found out it's been fifteen years. They complain to the aviation cemetery and let's say this relative this from the East Coast the VA won't ship them back to their local. VA cemetery so it's just there's just -- we have all the way around we get to honor veterans. There in their resting place where they're Brothers sisters so to speak help fellow service members. So yeah that's. In a nutshell what we do. Okay so what what kind of records and information you have on these remains. Almighty. But I am almost nothing but in -- -- Sometimes there's the of course the information for the last live the our -- security number. Are sometimes there's just a full. Are pretty out of these deep to fourteen. Which -- the discharge paper and when we find that in their records we do happy dance like days. -- we've got this and figured out. Offer the others. Are -- just volunteer. Their time -- which I should mention we are a firewall and he three. Very nonprofit. Have there are no paid employee self. That is the world's most of -- -- veterans we have a lot of people are so. It again that's the documentation. Can be from sketchy took very good. Must feel like solving a mystery all the time. This. It is you gotta be somewhat of a book or get in there and dig around and it's a very time consuming process -- -- these big gold out at all or is it. How did this organism organization gets started. Well and we break here and Grants Pass Oregon. There's as well not here but I mean I started here but the aviation cemetery near here we still reluctant flying blind very weird. Com. -- quarterly they have indigent and then off folks that have died at the various hospitals around they found their veterans thing so we're doing -- flight -- there that are my friend got a call. From I know that they hate. There's attacks sergeant and his life on the shelf feel -- seventeen years. And we -- -- -- can't speed. So check it out sure enough true did of their building came back and spot my friends that started the organization. Are your check is just an anomaly years -- line and sure enough there are actually -- homes everywhere. And -- think fully and on her belief that funeral homes. Take care of them they usually stored in a nice secure place. Awaiting someone like us to command them. Discover which ones are veterans. And hopefully that information gets around and in and people find their blog on. Well -- we're working on it -- the that this. So you -- -- To the VA now and think veterans remains. Organizations. There are a lot. Other veterans service organizations. But you know there were the only -- so far that has dedicated they're. To working with your own scoring person to do what we're doing. So but what is -- very historical moment I'm sure you've had a few. Oh my goodness yes. I would say yeah one of the most. Absolute highlight was. Didn't always started out -- a veteran that -- in Redding California the family was trying to getting verified for Arlington cemetery. And I just Oberstar recipient which is qualified but they were having trouble so we worked on that got that done within a month then another family came to us with a another silver star recipient. Won -- four more tournaments from the Vietnam era and then. -- Arizona's state hospital we discovered there was a medal of honor recipient. Buffalo soldier. Which is civil war era. And so we did research couldn't locate family -- anything we actually signed you have being exhumed cremated and took possession did we get a funeral escort from Sacramento California. Motorcycle escort across the nation it's. That was our life of can't let me tell you can't put the. That's amazing and it's great the organization can help do that sort itself. So. Syria involved with the highway to heaven cruise and -- that Cisco Allen memorial to what are you hoping to gain from being part of the -- and. Well. Exposure. Are there we need workers. There know that have -- trying to go into the funeral homes. And challenging records and just been you know try to identify veterans spouses and that -- exposures what we need and -- it and but I mean again I told. You know what we do and they look at me cross site like what I do such a thing sultan. Now after the exposure at the big word. Yeah how about it then it's going to be great Expos are free to original fox general manager Roscoe and memorial. How did you get involved with these two organizations. I'm well -- the legacy hospital pat peace of mind. Are at the dignity memorial groups here in the Portland area. Has had a pretty strong relationships. -- -- At legacy hot spent. And I with Energy Star Lorena by a one of my age co workers the passionate churn out. And what we've just been working. I'm as good working relationship split legacy hospice and -- in music city funeral home. And that that's how I can expose spaces pat peace of mind my staff. You know there's a lot of different hospital organizations. Alistair. And we wanted to supporter how to disorganization of the prison. And was actually my staff that chose to -- keep in mind program. We got a lot of travel over here about skyline. And our neighbors her big time -- lovers he can you know couple of skyline memorial -- any time. He'll keep people walking their dogs search you know moms but there's strollers that the dog Intel and we just all like it was going to be good today. And ethical Burton -- has and it means Blake. Like -- missing in America project at like if you have to pet -- of -- needs exposure to a lot of people you know when I talked to them about it. Don't realise that -- we have an -- both -- you're gonna need some -- -- Really thought it would be great to just to you know tie that in to. A good community events and what's missing in America. To accompany a workforce dignity memorial which is. -- funeral proprietor in North America we have about -- what patients. Missing in America has. Ten and contact of understanding. To work with dignity memorial byters. And so my eighth spot -- Aubrey came to mean he's like Rachel. You know -- India whereas this man in America project we have an agreement that would. They can come out you know on -- properties and work with our records. And try to find matches for the unclaimed creative remains and that's that and goal lead and I think I can -- remain committed. It's kind of sad when you think about it you know for whatever reason yeah. They've not been claimed that -- they're sitting there -- not forgotten and are right because for caring for them. But it'll. -- many funeral homes around the nation has this problem. We're here laughed he's trying to find family. There were indigent or for whatever reason no -- to -- -- animated remains. And I thought this is such a great project -- man. -- Pat and -- but Goodell except Hamburg I think it was yes -- yes -- And that I didn't with Syria can hash out our plan and how we're gonna work together. We. Taxes. For him to come in and care records. And candidates start working towards you know finding those matches that led. You know either -- -- created remains who word. Veterans are related better than it's getting so far what we have six matches and lose yes -- And we're gonna have to play halfway through their records and for me that this -- a screen every time. There's a match you know there are -- -- -- so thrilled because then it's. You know it's just doing the right thing you know it's making shirt that. -- -- Marines are interred with honor and respect that they deserved. Absolutely that's that's all part of Uncle Sam now when you -- in the line there. He likes to ship this year in there and do various things but in the end that's part of the agreement to is that. You can be buried at a VA cemetery. And for them to languish on the shelves. Well it's just it's just not convinced that in your heart that. You know that there is fair and so that. Working with dignity. And I -- -- to mention that I I forgot to mention -- earlier and that -- they were one of the first ones to step up with us and say hey -- this is a big problem nationwide. I think uniform color the problem but it is circumstance that is. Mission -- sites and they signed a memorandum of understanding like with us to say yes we're we wanna work for this and every one we've worked in across the nation of the dignity homes. They're like oh good you guys are here. And the dignity are ready as a veteran program that they really work with the veteran families when they come again. So I know it's it's it's just a pleasure working at a what they have good cookies so. That we always asking if I can really cares if it's because he's here. Yeah and that's one thing you know -- their dignity memorial. Then national hospice and the veterans. Administration and we have lovely color and we honor veterans. Program that we participate and and it's just. Combination. Hospital and working with daughter and and giving back to the community. And it's creating a lot of synergy was -- That create synergy within our community and to their clients that we served. And it's the that -- of the feel good things that we get to deal. -- can -- -- the volunteer coordinator with -- piece of -- so I'm assuming there are other volunteer opportunities with the organization. Oh absolutely. At we have breath of volunteers we have friendly visitors. We do have are we honor veterans program that. We started with dignity memorial and Natasha was doing are we -- a veterans. We did the Vietnam on what's happened. Other thing. And -- about can punch out of air show last year that was under false. And not taking the ball and call our main number at legacy -- -- particular 1000 and if anybody would like to volunteer we have many volunteer opportunities for. The trade but deserve a volunteer opportunities if you Tucson secure your role in organization has volunteer. Oh yes all volunteer. I was going to mention the web site. Panama by eight AP. Dot he knew about this. Everything we do our. We have done going to do our. Calendars on an error. Our rules of how we you know if you wanna be a volunteer you can look it up right there and see exactly what it what's involved what it takes dude just -- supporter even. You can logon and say hey I'm a supporter and we put you on our list. And then not keep you updated with email and such as that but that's one of the best blaze on chew. Kind of interest goal on Tuesday web site and look around and also you could call me. If they wanted to also and I I can. You just more information than they thought they wanted to. But at -- the well let's say that's a good to think. -- let's talk about the crews in the in the last couple minutes we have here. Yes so we're really excited to start. But their first year posting that. You know war really excited that we are planned prior to do this every year and if -- And they're willing that we would like to continue to do on the support them and raise awareness -- their groups put the crews can. I'm not people look at yes. They have it. And if you are classic car owner here in a classic car club. You can register for the -- and that's bring each and I can register at skyline -- dot com.
